I am from Nevada, should I attend the University of Nevada, Reno?
I am a junior in high school, have fairly good grades (3.5) and will be taking SATs and ACTs this spring. On the one hand I would have the benefits of in state tuition and major help from the Millenium Scholarship (a program awarding students who graduate high school in Nevada and chose to attend college in Nevada as well, it is worth up to $10,000 over 4 years and I know I qualify for it). On the other hand though, I am from a small town and desperate to meet new people and, due to the fact that many people from my town attend UNR, am scared I would be stuck with the same people in a sort of High School, Part Two. I will be paying for college with little financial supprt from my lower middle class family, so the monitary benefits are important, but I don't know if that alone should decide my college plans. I also plan to major in Journalism and UNR has an outstanding Journalism program from what I have read, but if anyone can offer information on that, I would appreciate it.

it's hard to decide i just decided my university it all comes down to your choice , you proabbly have one right now in mind but don't wanna make mistakes so you're asking aall opinion in the end it's your life and what you choose will be the best choice even if you think it's the wrong choice, it's still the best choice

Here is the point. Get the best education you can afford. What good does it do to go to another University that you cannot afford. You are being offered a higher education and want to blow it because of some crappy concept of wanting to meet new people. You will meet thousands of new people in you lifetime and will not like 99% of them. Meeting them in a University will not change this fact of life. Get your education first. Quit worring about the MultiCultural crap those liberal HS teachers have been feeding you all these years.

In my opinion, college is not just about taking tests and getting a diploma. It is the experience that also matters, meeting new people from many different states and even countries. That is why I also think you should consider other schools. Wouldn't it be great to study journalism in New York? Or intern in Chicago? For journalism especially, internships are so important. So while I understand your finance concerns, do not count other schools out. You should also choose a school that seems right for you, size wise, local, personality, etc. And you may be surprised with the financial aid you could receive else where. Also, keep in mind many journalists did not major in journalism. They majored in Political Science, Physics, International Relations or even a foreign language! It's great that you are already trying to explore your options. As you continue on your college path, stop by CollegeCoach.biz, I am available to talk anytime.
