Nevada State College --> UNLV Henderson

Nevada State College --> UNLV Henderson?
Why don't they turn Nevada State College into a branch campus of UNLV. Not a separate institution but another campus kind of like how ASU works. Seems like they could have better funding for more buildings, programs, etc.. and it would bring more prestige.

Answer 1 :
One reason may be that better funding is not available.
Answer 2 :
Nevada State serves a different population and has a different mission. NSC is a teaching institution, dedicated to undergraduates only, unlike UNLV which is a research institution. This means the experience for the student, and the responsibilities of the professor, are quite distinct. NSC offers smaller classes where professors know each student by name, and therefore have a unique ability to mentor each student. This is critical because NSC is an access institution- students need only a 2.0 to gain admission. This lower qualification (UNLV's is 3.0 or 3.25) is reflective of NSCs purpose, which is to provide quality education and access to 4yr degrees to a population usually deprived of an opportunity to go to college. And they are fulfilling that mission successfully, with drastic gains in enrollment, retention, and graduation rates each year. Again, because the mission and operation of the two schools are so distinct, it is not really plausible to have the two sites function under one administration.
